All the Right Reasons
Featured Book and Author
This . . . this is not what Shelby Monroe planned for when she opened her interior design business. She didn't anticipate funds running low as she starts her biggest project to date, the renovation of the Carlisle Building, and she certainly didn't anticipate the death of her mother nor the sudden custody of her little brother, with the Department of Human Services watching her every move.
Dane Graham also knows a little something about plans not working out. He'd planned to marry his girlfriend-slash-assistant and grow his construction company with her by his side. He never saw her refusing his marriage proposal, leaving him reeling.
Both Shelby and Dane should be used to being blindsided, but the biggest shock comes when a production company approaches them, offering to film their renovation of the historic Carlisle. It's perfect. Shelby will have a solid income, proving she can support her little brother. Dane will grow his empire, and hopefully leave his ex jealous and groveling.
Everything is coming together again, except there’s one little problem . . . the TV deal is for a married couple only. Maybe faking a marriage isn't wrong if it's for all the right reasons.

Rob's Dog Fight Stew Recipe
If you’ve read any of the books and Happily Ever After Series, then you know that Jan‘s husband, Rob, loves food. So, in Moonlighting Bride, when Rob is left alone to cook dinner, it comes as no surprise that he combines all of his favorite foods into one dish. Hence “Dog Fight Stew.” Here's the excerpt.
At night, Jan arrived home and parked in front of the house on the semi-circle driveway. Entering through the front door, from the foyer she could see the elegant dining room setting with lighted candles.
“Why hellooo.” Rob came around the corner from the kitchen swinging a whisk in the air and wearing only socks and an apron. “You must be the special guest I ordered for this evening.”
“Rob, everything looks wonderful,” Jan said, trying to keep from laughing. They walked toward each other in the great room and held each other tightly. With their arms around each other’s waists they sauntered into the dining room. “You did cook something for dinner, didn’t you?” Jan asked. “I’m starving.”
Rob picked up the lid from a casserole dish centered between two plates on the table. “And this evening we’ll be serving dog fight stew.”
The smile came off Jan’s face. “What is that?”
“It’s a combination of hot dog chunks, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese. Throw in a little chopped onion and you also get your vegetable serving for the day.” Using a large ladle Rob scooped the stew into their bowls until it was almost going over the edges.
“Whoa,” Jan said. “Rob, that’s probably too much for me.” She tried to pull her dish away from him. Any of it is too much for me, she thought.
“Nonsense,” Rob said as he kept scooping the food into her bowl. “I saw how much you liked eating Denise’s cooking. If you think her dishes are good, wait until you taste mine. It’s even better.”
When I wrote that as fiction goes, of course I was just making it up. But today I started thinking, people are making recipes from all types of food combinations these days. Could a recipe for Dog Fite Stew really be out there? I searched and I found. A couple of different recipes came close. The closest recipe thanks to Jam Hands is called Little Angel Casserole and it has all the same ingredients as Rob's recipe except for the onion. Another recipe on All Recipes is called Chili Dog Mac & Cheese was a close second, and actually sounds pretty good!
So, if Rob’s “Dog Fight Stew” made you smile, then you might want to try these real-life versions. It's fun to see how close fiction can come to reality, and who knows—you might find a new comfort dish. If you give one of these recipes a try, I’d love to hear how it turns out. Until then, enjoy the adventures of Jan Nichols, and don’t forget to check out the rest of the Happily Ever After Series.

What is your favorite setting for a perfect romance novel?
The question was asked, "What is your favorite setting for a perfect romance novel?" And now, the survey results are in and it’s clear what romantic book settings you love most.
Big cities took the top spot, followed by the charm of small towns. No surprise there, right? Then there was remote locations and international settings next, showing a love for adventure.
What was a surprise was that beaches were fifth on the list. I always thought romance and beaches were the preferred setting. Settings that were not listed but submitted were scenic train rides and travel bringing up the rear.
Thanks to everyone who shared their perfect romance backdrop. What do you think of the results?
